Hall elects new board, new chair

The PEI Sports Hall of Fame held its annual meeting on Saturday in Charlottetown, with long-serving president Clair Sudsbury of Summerside stepping down after more than 10 years at the helm. Sudsbury will be replaced by Charlottetown’s Lee Brammer. Other board changes saw Kings County Director Fred Cheverie and Prince County’s Gerard Smith leaving, with Dave MacDonald of Souris, Sterling Ellis from Stanhope, Billy McKendrick of Cape Wolfe, Walter Bradley of Morell, and Barb McNeill of Summerside taking seats on the board.

Incoming chair Brammer thanked the outgoing board members, and praised Sudsbury for his leadership over the years, recognizing the stability that the Hall has enjoyed under his tenure, and how it continues to play a valuable role in the Island’s sporting landscape. He emphasized that the honour and desire to be recognized as a Hall of Famer is as strong as ever, and that he was looking forward to working with the new board as it tackles areas of improving communications, exploring new funding initiatives, and providing for a stable future.

The Hall’s annual fundraiser, the Hewlett Packard Golf Classic,  is scheduled for June 25 at Brudenell, with teams of four welcome to participate. The annual induction ceremonies will take place in the fall. Details on the golf are available from Ken Doucette at 629-9802, while further information on the Hall, its inductees and activities, is available from Nick Murray at 368-4547, or e-mail publicrelations@sportpei.pe.ca
