The culture of sport has come a long way on the island. Today there are so many
different competitions of sport be it hockey, track and field, football, curling,
skeet shooting, etc. The PEI Sports Hall of Fame and Museum feature over 120
members with a variety of these sports and many others. We are pleased to have
the opportunity to recognize so many of the islands outstanding athletes and
to pay tribute to those who give the world of sport inspiration, spirit, hope,
and success!
The inducted members of PEI Sports Hall of Fame and Museum include
both male and female individuals, as well as teams as a whole. These members
have photographs,
newspaper clippings, letters of support, etc. to give evidence to their distinction
in athletic competition.
The era in which some of the legendary athletes date
back to as early as the pre 1920’s and right up until present, inducting
4 new members annually. There are 2 categories to which an athlete can be inducted
into: 1) Athletes,
and 2) Builders of Sport. Athletes or Builders of Sport must be retired from
active competition for a period of five years minimum.
